Apple ha annunciato il rilascio della versione beta della funzionalità di stampa wireless AirPrint per iPad, iPhone e iPod touch, disponibile per i membri del programma di sviluppatori per iOS di Apple, e ha dichiarato che AirPrint sarà inclusa nell’aggiornamento software gratuito iOS 4.2 di novembre. AirPrint rileva automaticamente le stampanti sulle reti locali e permette di stampare testi, foto e grafica in wireless via Wi-Fi, senza bisogno di installare driver o scaricare software. Le attuali e future stampanti HP con tecnologia ePrint saranno le prime a supportare la stampa diretta dai dispositivi iOS.
"AirPrint è la nuova, potente architettura di stampa di Apple, all’altezza della facilità d’uso di iOS: non richiede impostazioni, configurazione, driver né software da scaricare," ha dichiarato Philip Schiller, Senior Vice President di Worldwide Product Marketing per Apple. "Agli utenti di iPad, iPhone e iPod touch basterà un tocco per stampare documenti e foto in wireless su una stampante HP ePrint o su una stampante condivisa su Mac o PC."

AirPrint è progettato per supportare un’ampia gamma di stampanti, da quelle a getto d’inchiostro entry-level fino alle stampanti laser professionali. Inoltre i dispositivi iOS 4.2 possono stampare su stampanti condivise tramite un Mac o un PC. Le stampanti HP compatibili con iOS 4.2, disponibili già da autunno, includeranno le stampanti abilitate ePrint delle serie HP Photosmart, Officejet, Officejet Pro e LaserJet Pro.

Apple announced that it is releasing a beta version of its AirPrint wireless printing for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to members of Apple’s iOS developer program today, and that AirPrint will be included in the free iOS 4.2 software update in November. AirPrint automatically finds printers on local networks and can print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software. HP’s existing and upcoming ePrint enabled printers will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices.

AirPrint is designed to support a wide range of printers from entry level inkjet printers to office laser printers. Additionally, iOS 4.2 devices can print to printers shared through a Mac or a PC. iOS 4.2 compatible HP printers this fall include the HP Photosmart, Officejet, Officejet Pro and LaserJet Pro series ePrint enabled printers.
