Con il comunicato stampa allegato di seguito Apple ha lanciato sul mercato una nuova linea di computer iMac caratterizzati da un display widescreen a 20 o a 24 pollici. Le nuove soluzioni di Apple possono inoltre vantare l'adozione dei processori Intel della gamma Core 2 Duo di ultima generazione (fino al 2.8Ghz con 4Mb di cache L2) e della memoria RAM SDRAM DDR2 a 667MHz (fino a 4Gb).

La sezione grafica dei nuovi iMac si basa sulle schede grafiche di classe ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO, con 256MB di memoria RAM GDDR3, o ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT, con 128MB di GDDR3. Il Sistema Operativo in dotazione è Mac OS X 10.4.10 Tiger; a far da contorno figurano gli applicativi Safari, Mail, iCal, iChat AV, Front Row e Photo Booth.

E' opportuno sottolineare che il modello con monitor da 20" costa $1.199, ovvero circa $300 in meno rispetto alla precedente soluzione con display dalle medesime dimensioni; il modello con monitor da 24" costa invece $1.799, ossia $200 in meno rispetto al prodotto equivalente della precedente generazione.

Redefining Apple’s signature all-in-one design, the new iMac integrates the entire computer system into a sleek, professional aluminum enclosure for a striking, clutter-free desktop. An elegant glass cover joins precisely to the aluminum enclosure creating a virtually seamless front surface. The new iMac’s 20- and 24-inch glossy widescreen displays provide incredibly crisp images, ideal for photos and movies using the all new iLife ’08 suite of digital lifestyle applications that are included. The new ultra-thin aluminum Apple Keyboard is just 0.33 inches thin at its front edge.
