NVIDIA Corporation ha annunciato, mediante il comunicato stampa allegato di seguito, l'acquisizione di PortalPlayer, azienda di primo piano nel campo dei player mobile, specializzata nella fornitura di componenti a semiconduttore, firmware e software di vario tipo in ambito mobile. NVIDIA punta così a rafforzare la sua posizione nel segmento delle device portatili. Già oggi il chip-maker americano ha in corso strategiche partnership con Motorola, Samsung, Kyocera, HTC e Sony Ericsson: queste determinano l'utilizzo di tecnologia NVIDIA per l'implementazione delle funzionalità grafiche di cui sono dotati i telefonini di tali produttori.

The acquisition of PortalPlayer is expected to accelerate NVIDIA's ongoing investment in its handheld product strategy. NVIDIA's handheld technology, which combines high-quality graphics, TV, and video with low power and a small footprint, is at the foundation of many industry-leading portable media devices, including phones from Motorola, Samsung, Kyocera, HTC, and Sony Ericsson.
