Con il comunicato stampa allegato di seguito, LG Electronics ha reso noto di aver realizzato un player in grado di supportare entrambi i formati, ovvero capace di riprodurre in High Definition sia i dischi HD-DVD che quelli Blu-Ray.
L'annuncio è molto importante poichè esso pone fine di fatto alla forte contrapposizione tra le due soluzioni - destinate a rappresentare il successivo stadio evolutivo dei DVD - che ha finora diviso le aziende produttrici e disorientato gli utenti finali.
Il lettore dual-format sarà presentato in anteprima mondiale nei prossimi giorni a Las Vegas (USA), in occasione dell'International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) che si terrà dall'8 al 10 Gennaio.
LG Electronics(LG), a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, announced that it will launch the world's first dual-format high-definition disc player, capable of playing both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD content.
The unit will be released in the United States in early 2007. Details will be provided at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held January 8–11 in Las Vegas.
LG expects this technological breakthrough to end the confusion and inconvenience of competing high-definition disc formats for both content producers and consumers.
