Con un post sul proprio blog ufficiale, NVIDIA ha annunciato al grande pubblico "la più veloce gpu al mondo per notebook", ovvero la GeForce GTX 480M, mediante la quale il chip maker statunitense ha perseguito "risultati fondamentali", che innanzitutto coincidono con il "supporto delle API DirectX 11".
Inoltre, la GeForce GTX 480M, che è basata, naturalmente, sul chip grafico "GF100", che sappiamo essere realizzato secondo i dettami dell'architettura "Fermi", offre prestazioni particolarmente rilevanti con la tessellazione ("tesselation") in hardware mediante DirectX 11: in accordo a NVIDIA le performance del chip in questo ambito sono fino a 5 volte superiori a quelle di altre, e non meglio precisate, gpu.
Il core grafico della GeForce GTX 480M lavora a 425MHz (il valore è più basso rispetto a quelli di qualsiasi altra soluzione "Fermi" per desktop), gli shader a 850MHz e la RAM (1GB di G-DDR5 con bus a 256-bit) a 600MHz (valore fisico) o 2.40GHz (valore effettivo).
Al pari delle corrispondenti varianti per desktop, la GeForce GTX 480M supporta le tecnologie NVIDIA 3D Vision, PureVideo HD, PhysX, CUDA e DirectCompute 5.0.
