Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato il system builder Lenovo ha annunciato Skylight (cfr. le foto seguenti), il primo smartbook al mondo basato sulla piattaforma Snapdragon di Qualcomm, utilizzata anche dal Nexus One di Google, che include un processore di tipo ARM.

In accordo al produttore, Skylight è un prodotto di tipo mobile che si colloca a metà strada tra un netbook e uno smartphone poichè con esso Lenovo punta ad abbinare le funzionalità avanzate del primo al consumo energetico del secondo, al fine di offrire agli utenti una device diversa da tutte le possibili alternative già presenti sul mercato.

Tra le feature dello smartbook di Lenovo segnaliamo la dotazione di una cpu operante a 1GHz e di un drive a stato solido, o SSD, da 20GB; il display ha una dimensione di 10.1-inch ed è ottimizzato per la visualizzazione dei filmati in High Definition (HD). La connettività di rete o con altre device è assicurata dal supporto delle tecnologie Wi-Fi, 3G e Bluetooth.

Il Sistema Operativo preinstallato è rappresentato da una distribuzione Linux altamente custom, che risulta essere ottimizzata per il Web Surfing e rende disponibili un considerevole numero di web gadget predefiniti che semplificano e velocizzano l'accesso ad alcuni dei più noti servizi on line, come Google Gmail, Facebook e YouTube.

Lo smartbook Skylight di Lenovo sarà disponibile negli Stati Uniti a partire dal prossimo mese di Aprile, accompagnato da un MSRP pari a $499, mentre arriverà nei mercati cinese ed europeo entro la fine dell'anno corrente.

Skylight harnesses the best of smartphones and netbooks to create a new mobile consumer device. With a stunningly sleek and slim design, all day battery life, robust wireless connectivity and custom interface with live web gadgets, Skylight is designed to transform the mobile Internet experience. The Skylight smartbook connects with AT&T 3G mobile broadband service in the U.S.

Skylight is being introduced in two new vibrant colors, glossy lotus blue and earth red models. Skylight's clamshell design opens to reveal a brilliant high definition 10.1 inch screen designed for watching high definition videos or viewing photos. Tote it in a purse, backpack or bag. Weighing less than two pounds, Skylight is extremely mobile and lightweight enough for the user to tote it in a purse, backpack or bag. Pricing and Availability
The Lenovo Skylight smartbook will be available starting in April in the U.S. It will be available in China and in Europe later this year. In the U.S., it will be sold through www.lenovo.com, www.att.com and AT&T retail stores. Pricing will start at $499 at full retail price. AT&T offers two-year AT&T DataConnect service plans, as well as Data Connect Pass – a pay-as-you-need it data service available by the day, by the week or by the month.
